Quality of Life: What It Is, Why It Matters, and How to Improve It
Each month I will highlight the feature found within the pages of A Spoon-Filled Life's Planner, and how we can support ourselves as we navigate life with that (experience).
It's important to note that there are several topics for each month, per the annual awareness's; and there is no hierarchy.
One topic is no more or less important than another. If there is a feature that you hope to see in the upcoming planner, reach out, share your thoughts, and leave a comment.
January features Quality of Life Month.
Three simple words that are incredibly loaded, but important.
I think it's something that unites those with chronic illness, and those without. Those living with disability, and those who are able-bodied.
It is a call to reflect on our lives.
Are we simply moving through the motions, or living with intention?
I remember having a version of this talk with a member of my medical team in my twenties, as we were navigating (yet another) emergency.
"We cannot cure this. We will continue to address issues/complications as they arise." They said.
"And what am I supposed to do in the meantime? My life keeps getting interrupted." I sighed.
"You live your life. You make it what you want. Focus on that."
I admit, it seemed less than helpful at the moment; however, I'm now beginning to understand what they were trying to say.
Keep showing up.
Keep living.
Keep creating.
Keep engaging.
Keep building the life I dreamed of.
Because I am more than a person with chronic illness and disability. I am someone that once had hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
I completely understand that our health takes up a lot of space within our day to day, but it cannot be the only thing we focus on. Yes, be aware of it. See it as the partner, but do not allow it to be your sole focus.
My challenge for you this week is this: look at your life. What brings you joy? What is something you want to create more space for? What is something that gives you purpose?
These are the things that help ground and motivate us as we navigate our lives. It is what gives our lives meaning, and quality, richness, and depth!
